DON’T TOUCH BLU!

… Rather we have to ask what such an art as art carries with it, and how art is a time overrun …

Messina , Alessio Valore street- a short walk from the center, the greyness of a desolate alley, home to relics of anonymous industrial archeology and nocturnal perimeter populated by prostitutes and ghosts, is ripped apart by a huge brush stroke of Blue. In fact, right on the desolate wall of the former “Casa del Portuale”, the iconographic and chromatic power of “illegal”art by BLUE, one of the most influential contemporary writers, breaks with iconoclastic force the aesthetics of decay of a city which, though equipped with an extraordinary beauty is, from the point of view of antropic geography a place that is not a place, devoid of social, civilian and cultural identity . The magnificent murals of Blue is a hymn to the contrary, I would say a scream that wants to shake our minds stunned by the Scirocco , incapable to see nor take advantage of the enormous potential of a city wherw the sound of our roots echoes from the blue of sky and sea: […] “A landscape historically inhabited by the grammar of the myth: Colapesce, Ulysses, Morgana, Scylla, Charybdis, Poseidon, Orion, Chrono … They were always the symbolic tools used to enter into a relationship with the immeasurable connection between beauty and disaster which murmur in the Strait Scenario.” (ZONACAMMARATA Pier Paolo Zampieri)
Thus, despite the obviousness of the above, the controversy is pressing , very little serving the heroic efforts of the new municipal council, headed by our symbolic mayor barefoot, as in Messina “not a leaf moves that God does not want!” In this case, I do not know who God is and frankly I do not want to know … But God has given us the power of free will, and this has been proven by a bunch of guys who armed only with their revolutionary spirit, have given a new change signal to the city. As explained by the sociologist of the territory Pier Paolo Zampieri in his invaluable work ZONACCAMARATA, these young people, “encouraged by the Italian experience of the common goods (Mattei 2011) create the Collective Pinelli Occupied Theater that gave rise to spectacular occupations-liberations of all those citizen jewels abandoned for decades. At the political component was added a strong, artistic , student and social presence … Messina for the entire 2013 found itself in a strange polarity: an official theater which was not capable of giving a programming (The Vittorio Emanuele Theater) and another one, illegal, immigrant and itinerant one who did circuited a huge number of concerts, shows and events”. How great patrons, the boys of Pinelli called the talented writer (in 2008 at London’s Tate Modern, the contemporary art center of the British capital devoted an entire show to the phenomenon of street art and invited Blue!) who armoured behind his pseudonym BLUE arrives in Messina and in a short time produces the spectacular installation. In the vibrant and explosive murals Blu carves its explicit message, as well as in the rest of the world years ago. Sensitive and intuitive he fully grasps the fundamental question of Messina and translates it representing our blue and endless sea with its contradictions: the black and white graffiti depicting men imprisoned and subjected within networks of power and manipulation, the armies of raging avengers swordfishes that bring liberation, spearing networks and the economic, political and religious symbols so as the dream-like floating cities, are a faithful reproduction of a social context that must be reclaimed. Defined by “many” a vandalic and illegal act, the murals of Blue is a masterpiece that absolutely must become the symbol of a new renaissance of this beautiful city, bright and blue as few in the world. And what does it take to do more than what Blue is telling us with its installation? We often hear phrases such as improving land use or urban redesign, but we need an urgent and necessary action , an action to operate in that strange territory that is the human heart re-educating it to connect to a network of values that can restore dignity, freedom of thought and action. We are constantly bombarded by an ‘overdose of information and stimuli that sidetrack and pollute and it is almost impossible extricate themselves in the midst of this social jungle.
To do this you have to build a ‘strong , authoritative and autonomous identity wich is able to positively influence their environment and one of the most powerful tools in the world that we can use is unquestionably the culture of art and beauty. Than, almost a tautology that confirms a single point: DON ‘T TOUCH BLUE! And to support my ” BLUE apology”, I would say to those who do not consider art that of the writers that the street art is the most contemporary of arts. The speed of communication has changed the world and everything is adjusted to the dizzying pace of the web. Each context of human experience is now influenced by this speed and I find that street art is a quick, direct and very pop way to vehicule artistic communication. Not surprisingly, the MACRO in Rome (contemporary art museum) next June 7 will inaugurate the exhibition “URBAN LEGENDS-The legends of street art, a vision of Altrocontemporaneo”; an event that will feature a “dirty dozen painters who is conquering the world with very different languages, techniques and arguments and one thing in common: the street.” Even the great observatory of fashion, attentive and alert collector of the sounds of the world, is not indifferent to the phenomenon of street art dictating the dominant trend of the SS 2014 season. So, while on the catwalks of the Spring Summer 2014 Miuccia Prada becomes the ambassador of women’s strength and makes parade the wearable street art, moving on clothes and handbags the iconic images painted by 6 famous writers of Diego Rivera’s school , me , for female solidarity, arm myself like a warrior with a beautiful tribal dress and in front of the murals painted on the “Casa del Portuale”, I promise to Miuccia that Blue will not be touched!

…Piuttosto dobbiamo chiederci che cosa una tale arte in quanto arte porti con se, ed in che modo l’arte sia un superamento del tempo…

Messina Via Alessio Valore – a pochi passi dal centro, il grigiore di un vicolo desolato, sede di anonimi relitti di archeologia industriale e perimetro notturno popolato da prostitute e fantasmi, viene squarciato da un enorme pennellata di BLU. Infatti, proprio sul muro dell’ex casa del portuale, la potenza iconografica e cromatica dell’arte “illegale”di BLU, uno dei più influenti writer conteporanei, rompe con forza iconoclastica l’estetica del degrado di una città che se pur naturalmente dotata di una bellezza straordinaria è per geografia antropica un non luogo privo di identità sociale, civile e culturale. Il magnifico murales di BLU è al contrario un inno, anzi direi, un urlo che vuole scuotere gli animi sciroccati di noi messinesi così poco vigili nello scorgere e tantomeno sfruttare l’enorme potenziale di una città dove dal blu del cielo e del mare riecheggia il suono delle nostre radici: […] “Un paesaggio storicamente abitato dalla grammatica del mito: Colapesce, Ulisse, Morgana, Scilla, Cariddi, Poseidon, Orione, Crono… Sono stati da sempre gli strumenti simbolici utilizzati per entrare in relazione con l’incommensurabile rapporto tra bellezza e catastrofe che mormorano nello scenario dello stretto”.( ZONACAMMARATA Pier Paolo Zampieri ) Così, nonostante l’ovvietà di quanto detto finora, la diatriba incalza e a nulla sono valsi gli sforzi eroici della nuova giunta comunale capeggiata dal nostro simbolico sindaco scalzo, poiché a Messina “non si muove una foglia che DIO non voglia”! In questo caso, io non so chi sia DIO e francamente non voglio saperlo… Ma DIO ci ha donato il potere del libero arbitrio e ciò e stato dimostrato da un gruppetto di ragazzi che armati solo del loro spirito rivoluzionario, hanno dato un nuovo segnale di cambiamento alla città. Come spiega il sociologo del territorio Pier Paolo Zampieri nel suo preziosissimo saggio ZONACCAMARATA, questi giovani, “incoraggiati dall’esperienza italiana dei beni comuni (Mattei 2011) creano il collettivo Teatro Pinelli Occupato che ha dato vita a spettacolari occupazioni-liberazioni di tutti quei gioielli cittadini abbandonati da decenni. Alla componente politica si è aggiunta una forte presenza artistica studentesca e sociale… Messina per tutto il 2013 si è trovata dentro una strana polarità: un teatro ufficiale non in grado di darsi una programmazione (il Vittorio Emanuele) ed uno clandestino e itinerante che ha fatto circuitare un numero enorme di concerti , spettacoli e incontri”. Come grandi mecenati, i ragazzi del Pinelli chiamano il talentuoso writer (nel 2008 a Londra la Tate Modern, centro dell’arte contemporanea della capitale britannica dedica una intera mostra al fenomeno della street art ed invita Blu! ) il quale blindato dietro al suo pseudonimo BLU, sbarca a Messina e in poco tempo produce la spettacolare installazione. Nel vibrante ed esplosivo murales Blu incide il suo messaggio, così come da anni fa nel resto del mondo. Sensibile ed intuitivo coglie appieno la questione fondamentale di Messina e la traduce rappresentando il nostro mare blu ed infinito come le sue contraddizioni: i graffiti in bianco e nero raffiguranti uomini imprigionati e assoggettati dentro le reti del potere e della manipolazione, le schiere di impetuosi pesci spada giustizieri che trafiggendo reti e i simboli religiosi, economici e politici e le oniriche città galleggianti, sono la fedele riproduzione di un contesto sociale che va bonificato. Definito da “tanti” un atto vandalico e illegale, il murales di BLU è un capolavoro che assolutamente deve diventare il simbolo di una nuova rinascita di questa città bella, luminosa e blu come poche al mondo. E cosa occorre per farlo se non quello che Blu ci sta dicendo con la sua installazione? Spesso sentiamo utilizzare frasi come riqualificazione del territorio o ridisegno urbano ma l’intervento urgente e necessario da operare è in quello strano territorio che è il cuore umano rieducandolo a connettersi ad una rete di valori capaci di restituirgli decoro, libertà di pensiero ed azione. Siamo costantemente bombardati da un’ overdose di informazioni e di stimoli che depistano e inquinano e districarsi nel mezzo di questa giungla sociale è pressoché impossibile. Per farlo bisogna costruirsi un’ identità forte, autorevole e autonoma capace di influenzare positivamente il proprio ambiente ed uno degli strumenti più potenti di cui possiamo servirci è indiscutibilmente la cultura, l’arte e il bello. Dunque, una tautologia che riconferma un unico punto: DON’ T TOUCH BLU ! E per sostenere la mia “apologia di BLU”, vorrei dire a coloro che non considerano arte quella dei writer che la street art e la più contemporanea delle arti. La velocità delle comunicazioni ha cambiato il mondo e tutto si è adeguato al ritmo vertiginoso della rete. Ogni ambito dell’ esperienza umana è condizionato da tale velocità ed io trovo che la street art sia un modo rapido, diretto e molto pop di veicolare l’arte. Non a caso, il MACRO di Roma ( museo di arte contemporanea) il prossimo 7 Giugno inaugurerà la mostra URBAN LEGENDS-Le leggende della street art, una visione dell’Atrocontemporaneo; un evento che vedrà protagonisti “una sporca dozzina di pittori che sta conquistando il mondo con, linguaggi, tecniche e argomenti molto diversi e una sola cosa in comune: la strada”. Anche il grande osservatorio della moda, attento e vigile percettore dei suoni del mondo, non rimane indifferente al fenomeno della street art e ne fa il trend dominante della stagione. Così, mentre sulle passerelle dello Spring Summer 2014 Miuccia Prada diventa ambasciatrice della forza delle donne e fa sfilare “la street-art-ready-to-wear”, con abiti e borse dipinte da 6 famosissimi writer della scuola di Diego Riveira, io per solidarietà femminile mi armo con uno splendido tribal dress da guerriera e davanti al murales dipinto sulla ex casa del portuale, prometto a Miuccia che BLU non verrà toccato!
