Exceptional container of the eclecticism of the most fascinating and controversial island in the Mediterranean. Theatrical city rich in history, indomitable, explosive, rebel, only thoroughbred heir of her majesty the queen mother Mount Etna. For this legacy you could put together the most sophisticated anthropological theories of its inhabitants. Thanks to the obvious business talent it’s known as “the Milan of the South”. Walking through its streets I’ve often caught magical glimpses of poetry only to be suddenly thrown into sick decay. The blinding glare of the black lava flows which gush down into the blue is powerfully beautiful. The “magma” which vibrates underground makes it unique, irresistible, loaded with an excess of life. Saint Agatha and Librino, the International Airport and the Market, Africa and Europe, snow clad Etna and the tropical Playa, the Fish market and U Liotru, San Cristoforo and the Benedictine Monastery: Catania is all this and much more, the city with a black heart and hot blood… Catania, which never stops, like the flowing lava of which it is made… and which has savagely destroyed it again and again… Catania which, for better or worse, has no intention of ceasing to amaze and lord it from Europe’s most explosive lofty peak from where…. Up there, alert and vigilant, it gazes right down as far as the African horizon.

…………

Lassù, attenta e vigile, volge il guardo fin giù all’orizzonte Africano.
